Subject: Science Fair Volunteers

Hello Parents,

I am writing to you for two reasons. The first reason is to say thank you for volunteering to help with science fair! It is a wonderful event and the students are working very hard in preparation for the fair. I love that students have this opportunity to behave and think like scientists by pursuing something they are curious about. The second reason is to let you know of four ways in which your help is needed. I will provide dates and descriptions below:

 

IVA Science Fair

Thursday, February 18, 2016, 3:30 - 5:00pm (maybe earlier depending on number of helping hands) Set-Up

• Staple a code onto each board
• Set up the boards and supplemental materials by category
• Prepare judging clipboards

 

Friday, February 19, 2016, 8:30am - 3:00pm Judge

• Review display boards
• Interview student scientists in a category of your choosing* (tentative options are physics, chemistry, biology, environmental science, observational science, behavioral science, engineering applications)
• Decide 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and honorable mention projects in your category (this decides who will be invited to the Los Angeles County Science Fair)

*Parents should choose a category that their son or daughter is not in in order to eliminate bias.

 

Los Angeles County Science Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center (In order to participate at LACSF, we need to provide 5 volunteers)

Choose from Thursday - Saturday, March 17 - 19, 2016, 3 Hour commitment Volunteer

• There are many options in how to help and what times to help. Deadline to register as a volunteer is 2/24/16, but the earlier you register, the better options you have to choose from
• Only need to do one 3 hour shift.

 

 

Friday, March 18, 2016, 7:00am - 5:00pm, Judge (this counts as two volunteers)

• Attend a same-day orientation at 7:00am
• Review display boards
• Interview student scientists
• Decide 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and honorable mention projects in your category (this decides who will move on to the California State Science Fair)

 

 

 

 

Again, thank you for your help. It is very appreciated! Please respond to me as soon as possible with your choice. Also, please don’t feel like you can only volunteer in one way, so if you really want to volunteer on two or more days, you are welcome to :).
