As a 7th grade student in California, you will be taking part in the Fitnessgram physical fitness test. The Fitnessgram is a state mandated standardized assessments for students in grades five, seven, and nine. It was developed by The Cooper Institute and as a comprehensive, health-related physical fitness assessment with the goal of helping students establish lifelong habits of regular physical activity.
The Fitnessgram uses different tests to asses the five components of health-related physical fitness (cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition). Student results from each individual test are evaluated against the Healthy Fitness Zone standards. The Healthy Fitness Zone standards are criterion-referenced standards that compare students to a set measure of personal fitness for students at a certain age. When testing is completed, student scores are reported and entered into a district- and state-wide database.
The seven tests that your student will be taking part in are the PACER, 1-Mile run, Push-ups, Curl-ups, Trunk Lift, Sit & Reach, and BMI (height and weight).
Students are scheduled to take part in the Fitnessgram
May 24-31. During their physical education class, small groups of students will be pulled out to complete each Fitnessgram test. Each students will be individually assessed by myself. After the week of testing, scores will be submitted to the state- and school-wide reports will be completed and disbursed in the fall.

- Tuesday, May 24: Push-ups, Sit & Reach, Trunk Lift
- Friday, May 27: 1-Mile run, Curl-ups, BMI (height & weight)
